High-alloy austenitic stainless steels, such as stainless steel 904L Sheets and Plates, are mainly made of carbon (<0.02%), nickel (23–28%), molybdenum (4–5%), copper (1-2%), and chromium (19–23%). In environments that are acidic and chloride-rich, this composition offers exceptional corrosion resistance. Strength and ductility are guaranteed by the material’s tensile strength of 490–675 MPa, yield strength of 220 MPa, and elongation of roughly 35%. While the low carbon content increases weldability and reduces the possibility of carbide precipitation during fabrication, the presence of molybdenum and copper improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.
