The Mu Metal Foil consists mainly of about 77–80% nickel, 12–16% iron, and 4–5% molybdenum, along with small additions of copper and chromium. It is manufactured as per ASTM A753 Alloy 4 specifications and is characterized by high permeability (up to 100,000), very low coercivity, and high ductility. Some of the mechanical properties are tensile strength of 450–500 MPa, yield strength of about 250 MPa, elongation ≥30%, and density of about 8.7 g/cm³.
