Invar Sheets and Plates consist of a nickel-iron alloy containing about 36% nickel and 64% iron. This alloy has a very distinctively low coefficient of thermal expansion (~1.2 × 10⁻⁶/°C between 20°C and 200°C), which provides unparalleled dimensional stability over temperatures. Mechanical properties are tensile strength 450–550 MPa and yield strength approximately 270–300 MPa. Invar is usually supplied in annealed condition for improved machinability and can be obtained in sheet and plate thicknesses from 0.1 mm to 50 mm, according to ASTM F1684 or UNS K93600 specifications.
