Monel, generally made of about 63% nickel and 28–34% copper, with trace amounts of iron, manganese, and silicon, has outstanding mechanical and anti-corrosion properties. It has high tensile strength (up to 70,000 psi for Monel 400 and up to 160,000 psi for Monel K500), excellent resistance to corrosive acidic and alkaline conditions, and retains its integrity from cryogenic temperatures to 1000°F (538°C). The alloy is non-magnetic and offers excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking and pitting and is consequently very well suited to demanding processes.
